Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer used a 10th-place finish in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway to earn a berth in the 2015 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 26th and slowly worked his way through the field breaking into the top-10 with less than 100 laps remaining. He restarted ninth with 18 laps to go and held on to finish 10th, his 11th top-10 finish of the season. Bowyer and the No. 15 team start the 10-race Chase next weekend in Chicago tied for 12th and just 12 points behind the leader. The 16-driver format calls for the four drivers lowest in the points to be eliminated after the third, sixth and ninth races. The four remaining drivers will determine the champion at the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 22.

  • Started 26th and finished tenth
  • Earned his sixth career Chase berth and third with MWR
  • Begins Chase tied for 12th place – just 12 points behind leaders

BOWYER: “Couldn’t be happier for everyone at MWR and the folks at 5-hour ENERGY, PEAK, AAA Mid-Atlantic, Maxwell House, Toyota and everyone that supported us this season. This was the goal all season and we did it. But, it’s just the start. We are confident we can take the next steps. We want to be Chase champions. Just very proud right now.”

David Ragan Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver David Ragan finished 17th in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started fifth and reported major handling issues as the No. 55 dropped to mid-pack near the halfway mark. After several stops, the crew’s adjustments seemed to fix the problems and Ragan began climbing back through the field. The early deficit, however, was too great to return to the top 10. Ragan and the No. 55 Aaron’s team return to action Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway.

  • Started fifth and finished 17th
  • Dropped to mid-pack, reported major handling issues
  • After several adjustments, Ragan regained the lost speed and began climbing through field

RAGAN: “We had really high hopes for the Aaron’s Dream Machine tonight but something happened to the car right after the start. We got the speed back as the race went on. I think we were probably top 15 all night except for the one stint. Disappointed, but we’ll go to Chicagoland next weekend knowing we have fast cars. I want to congratulate Clint Bowyer and No. 15 team for making the Chase. That’s a tribute to the men and women at Michael Waltrip Racing. I plan to be Clint’s biggest fan the next 10 races.”
