Clint Bowyer Race Summary: Clint Bowyer, driving a special throwback scheme honoring Buddy Baker on his No. 15 Toyota, finished 17th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 28th and spent the majority of the 367-lap event trying to adjust on the handling of the No.15 machine. Bowyer raced in the top 20 for most of the race and managed his tires at the notoriously abrasive track. He was able to maintain his position during several late cautions, avoiding any on-track incidents. His 17th-place finish allows Bowyer to remain in the 16th and final Chase spot, holding a 29-point lead over 17th place and 44 points behind 12th place. The No. 15 5-hour ENERGY team returns to action Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway in a race that will set the field for the 2015 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

  • Started 28th and finished 17th
  • Raced in the top 20 most of the event
  • No. 15 carried a special scheme honoring Buddy Baker
  • Goes to Richmond in final Chase position with a 29 point lead over 17th place

BOWYER: “There’s so much attention on this race that you really want to be good here. But we just didn’t have much tonight. On the bright side, we didn’t give up too much in the points. I think we're still in good shape. You're never good until you're in, but we did the best we could.”

David Ragan Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver David Ragan saw two late-race wrecks ruin a good performance and leave him with a 40th-place finish in Sunday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 21st and moved into the top-10 by the lap-30 mark. Ragan ran near that position throughout the race until a lap 266 spin into the inside wall dropped him two laps behind the leader. Before he could make a bid to regain the lost laps, contact by Paul Menard on lap 279 sent Ragan hard into the wall ending his race. Ragan and the No. 55 Aaron’s team return to action Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway.

  • Started 21st and finished 40th
  • Climbed into the top 10 by lap 30
  • Hit inside wall on lap 266 then contact with Paul Menard ended race on lap 279
  • No. 55 carried a special paint scheme his father campaigned during his Sprint Cup career

RAGAN: “We had a really fast Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota and on a long run I felt like we had a top-six or seven car, but overall I felt like we had a 10th to 12th-place car. Just trying to be smooth. Hadn’t put a scratch on it all night and we dug ourselves a hole and got a lap down and the car was still decent and I don’t know why (Paul) Menard was real aggressive and just wrecked us coming off of turn four. I’d gotten loose and the 7 (Alex Bowman) and I kind of door slammed in turn three and Menard had a run and I don’t know if he was going to try to push me where I could clear the 7 or if he was mad or upset, but he just turned us. It was unfortunate to tear up a good race car like that and that’s kind of the way the cookie crumbles here at Darlington sometimes. When you get yourself in a hole, it’s tough to dig your way back out.”
