David Ragan Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver David Ragan finished 18th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. The Michael Waltrip started 13th but dropped to the back of the field after a lap one spin. He returned to the top 15 by lap 80 and appeared ready for a top-10 finish until his Toyota suffered front-end damage in a lap 127 accident. Despite repairs the No. 55 never regained the previous speed and finished 18th. Ragan and the No. 55 Aaron’s team return to action Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.

  • Started 13th and finished 18th
  • Spun on lap one to bring out the first caution flag of the day
  • Worked his way back in the top 15 by lap 80
  • Received front end damage during a lap 126 wreck
  • Awarded the free pass with just under 20 laps remaining

RAGAN: “It was a long, hard fought race for our team. Just spun out the first corner – the car was wrecking before I even got to the straightaway – that was unexpected for sure. I’m glad we were able to rebound from that. Got a little bit of damage when Ryan Newman and Clint (Bowyer) wrecked, so we pitted a couple of times and I felt like we didn’t have a winning car, but had a top-15 Aaron’s Dream Machine Camry if we could have avoided that damage at the end of the race. Proud of our team for fighting back. It was a solid lead lap finish for all the trouble we had and I’m glad this place is in our rear view mirror.”

Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 41st in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 12th and jumped to sixth after a lap. By the midway point Bowyer was still safely riding in the top five. On the lap-127 restart, Ryan Newman and Bowyer made contact on the backstretch sending the No. 15 spinning into the inside wall. Severe damage forced the No. 15 to make repairs in the garage. Bowyer returned to racing with 48 laps remaining and finished 41st.  Bowyer remains in the 16th and final Chase spot, holding a 23-point lead over 17th place and is only 47 points behind 12th place. The No. 15 5-hour ENERGY team returns to action Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.

  • Started 12th and finished 41st
  • Raced in the top 10 for more than half the race
  • Wreck on lap 127 forced Bowyer to the garage for repairs
  • Owns 23-point lead in the Chase over 17th place in points – just 47 points out of 12th

BOWYER: "It's hard to get by and hard to pass - everybody is going for it in the restarts. It's one of those deals, you don't want to be in the situation you're in, but it doesn't change the fact that you have to get up on the wheel and get back to it, unfortunately. I thought I was doing right and the 2 (Brad Keselowski) kind of came up sliding and it looked like he was out of control so I went to move up to give him some room and unfortunately they ran right into me. There's still time, we're still in control of our destiny. You're backed up against the wall and need to win and that picture doesn't look pretty, if that doesn't happen, we're still in control."
