Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 Maxwell House Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished eighth in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 19th and quickly showed he had a fast Toyota as he climbed into the top 10. Bowyer’s day took a turn for the worse when a caution closed pit lane a split-second before he entered on lap 94. A half-second later and Bowyer would have restarted the race in first. Instead, the penalty for entering pitlane too early dropped the No. 15 to 31st. Bowyer used the next 50 laps to charge to the front. He raced in 15th when many of the leaders began running out of fuel in the closing laps. Bowyer managed to save enough fuel and crossed the finish line on fumes in eighth marking his second consecutive top-10 finish. The No. 15 team returns to action Sunday on the road course at Watkins Glen International.

  • Started 19th and finished eighth
  • Fast car from the beginning of the race
  • Fell to 31st after penalty for entering pitlane too soon
  • Charged back to the front and saved enough fuel to finish
  • Owns six top-10 finishes in last nine races

BOWYER: “Holy cow that was a finish. What a race. We got caught with the caution lights and had a heck of a comeback. We were able to save enough fuel and give the Maxwell House Toyota a great finish.

David Ragan Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver David Ragan finished 17th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 24th and used fast lap times and good pit strategy to lead during a pit stop cycle on lap 124. As the race moved to its latter stages, the No. 55 remained fast and climbed into position to secure a top-10 finish. Many of the leaders ran out of gas on the final two laps and it appeared Ragan would garner a top-five finish, but the No. 55’s engine also sputtered with two to go and Ragan coasted on the final lap, finishing 17th. Ragan and the No. 55 Aaron’s team return to action Sunday on the historic New York road course at Watkins Glen International.

  • Started  24th and finished 17th
  • Fast from the start; led lap 124 during pit cycle
  • Appeared to secure top-10 and possibly top-five finish
  • Ran out of fuel on final lap and coasted to finish line

RAGAN: “I felt like we had a solid top-10 car. A great improvement from Friday. Our Aaron’s Dream Machine team did a nice job making adjustments throughout the weekend. We showed up with a mid-pack car on Friday and I felt like we had a top-10 car on Sunday. That’s the gamble that you have to play sometimes when you’re trying to win races and get the best finish to try to make this Chase. Just came out a half lap short. I’m proud of the team and all we can do is move on to Watkins Glen.”
