Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 Cherry 5-hour ENERGY To Benefit Special Operations Warrior Foundation Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 20th in Sunday night’s 600-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 25th and raced mid-pack before encountering damage from contact on pit lane before the halfway mark. Bowyer dropped a lap behind the leader, but as the race progressed, the No. 15 began turning better lap times. Bowyer battled for the free pass throughout the second half of the race and even stretched his fuel mileage on the final run, but could not return to the lead lap. The No.15 team returns to action Sunday at Dover International Speedway.

  • Started 24th and finished 20th
  • Contact on pit lane damaged the No. 15 near the halfway mark
  • Improved car throughout race and battled for free pass
  • Returns to action Sunday in Dover.

BOWYER: “Disappointing night for us. We thought we would run better. The 5-hour ENERGY crew worked hard throughout the race, but the cautions never fell the way we needed them to get our lap back.”

David Ragan Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota driver David Ragan finished 41st in Sunday night’s 600-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Ragan started seventh and held his own in the early going even jumping into the top five after the lap 25 competition caution. Ragan raced near the front of the field until the halfway mark when a tire rub from contact on pit lane and handling issues dropped him off the lead lap. The No. 55 crew made chassis adjustments throughout the second half of the race and battled for the free pass. But, engine issues ended its race after 353 of the race’s 400 laps. The No. 55 team returns to action Sunday at Dover International Speedway.

  • Qualified seventh and finished 41st
  • Raced in the top five in the early going
  • Handling issues plagued the No. 55 in the middle of the race
  • Engine issues ended the race with less than 50 laps remaining

RAGAN: “Really, really happy with our Aaron’s Dream Machine Camry when we started the race. I felt like the first 100 laps we really had a top-10 to 12 car. We got behind a little bit on pit sequence and lost some track position. Really just made a bad judgement call about halfway through the race and went the wrong way on an adjustment when the track was cooling down. Really took us two or three runs to get that adjustment back out of the race car. Feel like at the end we were back to decent lap times and we just needed to get back on the lead lap. We were fighting hard to get back on the lead lap and looks like something happened engine related – we got really, really hot and something happened internally. Saw some encouraging signs that we had some speed in qualifying and the race as well, we just need to put a race all together.”

  • Carl Edwards took the checkered flag 4.785 seconds ahead of Greg Biffle
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr., Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex Jr. rounded out the top five
  • Eight cautions slowed the race for 39 laps
