30th      Clint Bowyer

36th      Michael Waltrip

Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 PEAK Commercial and Industrial Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 30th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started tenth and his strategy of dropping to the back of the field to avoid trouble paid off early as he dodged a 14-car pileup on the backstretch near the 50-lap mark. Bowyer stayed at the back of the field until 40 laps remaining, then jetted to the front of the field breaking into the top five. As the laps wound down Bowyer raced in ninth as 11 cars lined up single file to determine the winner. The leaders broke formation with two laps to go. In the frenzied racing, another car clipped Bowyer causing the field to speed by as he collected himself. He completed the lap but took the checkered flag in 30th. The No.15 team returns to action Sunday at Bowyer’s home track Kansas Speedway.

  • Started 10th and finished 30th
  • Dropped to back at start and avoided 14-car wreck
  • Began racing hard with 50 to go - climbed into the top five with 40 to go
  • Ran in ninth in the final laps as the leaders ran in a single-file, 11-car line
  • Clipped on the final lap, causing the field to speed past on the final lap

BOWYER: “We had a great PEAK Toyota today. I knew it was going to be wild in the final laps and I knew we had something for them. It ended up being just as wild as I expected. I need to see a replay, but we just got hit and it cost us a great finish.”

Michael Waltrip Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota driver Michael Waltrip finished 36th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Waltrip qualified 23rd for his 58th start on the 2.66-mile superspeedway, but hopes for a good finish were dashed early. A blown engine forced Brian Scott into a spin in front of Waltrip on lap 19 leaving Waltrip no room to maneuver. The No. 55 suffered extensive front-end damage and spent about 40 laps in the garage for repairs. Waltrip returned to competition on lap 57 and raced until the finish. The No. 55 team returns to action Sunday at Kansas Speedway when David Ragan takes over the Aaron’s Dream Machine for the rest of the 2015 season.

  • Qualified 23rdth and finished 36th
  • Blown engine forced Brian Scott into a spin in front of Waltrip on lap 19 leaving Waltrip no room to maneuver
  • No. 55 spent about 40 laps in the garage for front-end repairs
  • Sunday marked Waltrip’s 58th start at Talladega

WALTRIP: “It looked like the 33 (Brian Scott) blew up and then he spun out and we’re creeping by on the bottom and he just turned right into my lap. Nothing I can do, but the team worked hard to replace the whole front end, radiator and everything just to get back out there. The Aaron’s Dream Machine was a lot of fun to drive and I wish we could have raced more.”
