MWR TEXAS RESULTS:

22nd     Clint Bowyer

29th      Brett Moffitt

Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota Camry driver Clint Bowyer finished 22th in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 27th and drove toward the front in the early going. An extra stop to change tires on lap 61 cost Bowyer two laps. The No. 15 dropped four laps down to the leader, but ran competitive times in the second half of the race, making up all four lost laps. Bowyer restarted 26th with 22 laps to go and drove to 22nd when the checkered flag fell. The No.15 team returns to action Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

  • Started 27th and finished 22nd
  • Lost two laps when forced to make stop on lap 61 to change tire
  • Fell four laps down but regained each of the laps in second half of race
  • Drove from 26th to 22nd in final 22 laps

BOWYER: “That was frustrating. No doubt about it. But it was also a heck of a comeback. I’m never going to be happy with a 22nd-place finish, but our 5-hour ENERGY crew kept working and working tonight to get us back in the game. Brian Pattie made some pretty bold calls at the end. We will get this figured out.”

Brett Moffitt Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine Camry driver Brett Moffitt finished 29th in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver qualified 36th  and worked his way toward the front as the team made changes to improve the car’s grip on the 1.5-mile oval. He moved to 31st by lap 100, but the pace of the leaders put Moffitt down two laps by the halfway mark. Moffitt fell four laps down at one point, but turning top-15 lap times and timely cautions allowed him to return to the lead lap with 22 laps left in the race. A cut tire with 13 laps left dropped him off the lead lap. The No. 55 team tests at Kentucky Speedway this week then returns to action Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

  • Qualified 36th and finished 29th
  • Raced to 31st by lap 100
  • Crew worked to improve grip throughout race
  • Fell four laps off the lead then began turning top-15 lap times in second half of race
  • Returned to lead lap but cut tire forced stop in closing laps
  • The No. 55 is 24th in owner points and Moffitt is 30th in driver points

MOFFITT: “That was a tough race for us, but I learned a lot. Our Aaron’s crew worked on the car throughout the race and we made up four laps which is pretty amazing. Handling was our biggest challenge tonight. I’m looking forward to Bristol next weekend. I’ve raced there before and think we’ll be pretty good.”
