MWR PHOENIX RESULTS:

24th Clint Bowyer

41st Brian Vickers

Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 24th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 30th and moved to 20th in the early going. He was forced to come down pit road on lap 142 for a loose wheel, dropping the No. 15 a lap behind the leaders. But Bowyer earned the free pass and returned to the lead lap on lap 200. As the race wound down the No. 15 came alive with Bowyer driving from 27th to 12th with 50 to go. He restarted 14th with 13 to go but hopes for a top-10 finish ended when he got shuffled out of the groove, costing him several spots and leaving him with a 24th-place finish. The No. 15 BlueDEF team returns to action Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

  •                   Started 30th and finished 24th
  •                   A loose wheel on lap 142 dropped Bowyer off lead lap
  •                   Earned free pass on lap 200 and drove from 27th to 12th by lap 257
  •                   Restarted 14th with 13 to go but got shuffled out of the groove
  •                   Remains 14th in Chase points

BOWYER: “Just a struggle all day but we never gave up. We were in position for a good finish when I just got shuffled out there at the end. I was just trying to hold on to my 5-hour ENERGY Toyota on those last laps.”

Brian Vickers Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver Brian Vickers finished 41st in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 18th but his Toyota suffered significant right side damage when contact with Jimmie Johnson’s car sent the No. 55 into the wall at the end of lap one. Vickers spent 81 laps in the garage before returning to the track and finishing the race. He and the No. 55 team return to action Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. where he’ll drive the No. 55 Janssen Toyota Camry.

  •          Started 18th and finished 41st
  •          No. 55 suffered right side damage in lap one contact with Jimmie Johnson and the wall
  •          Spent 81 laps in the garage before returning to the race
  •          No. 55 is 24th in owner points

VICKERS: “It's a shame because this Aaron's Dream Machine Camry was really good in practice and I felt really good about the first lap. Last I heard I was coming out of (turn) four and I heard I was all clear and I went up to the wall and then I just got drilled from behind and turned into the wall. I don't know whose fault it was. We’ll be ready for California next weekend.”
