MWR Sprint Unlimited Race Report

Daytona International Speedway

  • Clint Bowyer finished 20th

Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 20th in Saturday night’s 75-lap Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway. Bowyer’s night ended on lap 46 of the 75-lap race in a 15-car accident. Bowyer started 18th and raced at the back of the pack in the early going as the field ran four-abreast at times. Bowyer began creeping toward the front of the field before narrowly missing the first wreck of the night when Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski made contact on lap 24. Bowyer’s No. 15 suffered minor damage from debris but was able to rejoin the field. Bowyer moved toward the front when the race restarted, climbing to 10th on lap 40. Just as he looked to contend for the lead, Greg Biffle and Jamie McMurray made contact a few cars head of Bowyer triggering a major crash on the front stretch. Bowyer slammed into a spinning Paul Menard causing major front-end damage and ending his race. The season begins Sunday Feb. 22 with the Daytona 500.

Bowyer Notes:

  • Started 18th and finished 20th.
  • Bowyer ran at the back of the pack in the early going.
  • Narrowly missed the first caution of the race when Kyle Larson and Brad Keselowski made contact on lap 24.
  • Climbed to 10th on lap 40.
  • Lap 46 wreck collected 15 cars including Bowyer whose car suffered severe front-end damage.

Bowyer: “The cars really pull up and suck up pretty good so you’re pushing and beating and banging on each other. Denny (Hamlin) and I kind of moved up there and we were making some hay in the center. I saw a car backwards and then I hit it. My spotter told me to get low, get low and low is in the grass. These things don’t seem to like to go through the grass very well. Not the way we wanted to get started. Kind of a bummer – I was just starting to have some fun and get up there. The good news is that we have a long race and a big race coming up next week and we’ll go at it.”

  • The 75-lap race included two segments of 25 and 50 laps.
  • Race featured 14 lead changes among nine drivers.
