Clint Bowyer Race Summary: No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 23rd in Saturday night’s 400-mile NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway. Bowyer started 11th and initially raced in the top 10 despite reporting his Toyota would not turn in the corners. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver and crew worked every pit stop to cure the handling issues. Bowyer appeared destined for a top-10 finish but with 40 laps remaining he reported his car was too loose while running ninth. The No. 15 dropped several spots and fell off the lead lap with four laps remaining in the race. The 5-hour ENERGY team returns to action Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.

  • Started 11th and finished 23rd
  • Battled a handling issue throughout race
  • Appeared ready to earn top-10 finish but loose condition dropped car through field
  • Fell off lead lap with four laps left in the race

BOWYER QUOTE: “It’s disappointing. I really hate that we gave up all those spots at the end of the race. We just struggled with the car turning good enough then got ourselves too loose entering the corner. Even with all that I thought we were going to salvage a decent top 10, but we fell off the map the last run. Not sure how that happened.”

Brian Vickers Race Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver Brian Vickers finished 26th in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 17th and raced mid-pack throughout the 400-mile race. The crew spent most of the race working to cure a handling issue that made the car difficult for Vickers to turn in the corners. Vickers raced in 24th with the leader just seconds behind on lap 154 when a debris caution fell keeping him on the lead lap. That scenario repeated itself on lap 213 again keeping Vickers from falling down a lap. He stayed on the lead lap until 20 laps left in the race. Vickers and the No. 55 Aaron’s team return to action Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.

  • Started 17th and finished 26th
  • Worked throughout the race to cure handling issues
  • Caution on lap 154 and 213 kept No. 55 on lead lap
  • Stayed on lead lap until lap 20 laps before end

VICKERS QUOTE: “That was as tough as it gets, just a really long night. Whenever I was on the brakes we were loose and when I was on the throttle we were tight. That sums up everything. We had a ton of momentum going earlier in the year but the month of June was brutal to us. We will turn it around and get back in the Chase hunt, starting next week at Daytona.”

RACE NOTES:

  • Brad Keselowski won the race by 1.014 seconds over Kyle Busch
  • The race lasted two hours and 51 minutes
  • The race featured 12 lead changes among three drivers
  • The race was slowed by six cautions for 34 laps
