Five-time Grammy Award winner Wynonna will lend her legendary voice to a good cause when she headlines the Fifth Annual Waltrip Brothers Charity Championship in October.
Wynonna and her band, The Big Noise, treat guests to a musical performance in the Oct. 22 Champion’s Dinner, the first event of the two-day Waltrip Brothers Charity Championship in Franklin, Tenn. The fundraiser culminates with the Oct. 23 “no mulligan” golf tournament at Vanderbilt Legends Club and benefits Feed The Children and Motor Racing Outreach (MRO).
"Darrell Waltrip is my friend and neighbor, so when he called to ask me if I would sing at this year's WBCC Champion's Dinner, I did not hesitate!” Judd said. “I am thrilled that I can share my gift and be a blessing to him, his family and to the community I love so much."
The Champion’s Dinner at The Factory opens the fundraiser and includes additional entertainment, as well as a silent and live auction featuring autographed items from a variety of NASCAR drivers, celebrities and sports icons.
On Oct. 23, the “no mulligan” golf tournament wraps the event at the private Vanderbilt Legends Club, one of Tennessee’s finest courses, featuring two championship courses co-designed by Hall of Fame golfer Tom Kite and renowned golf course architect Bob Cupp, as well as a 19-acre, state-of-the-art practice facility.
“I've loved Wynonna's music from the days of The Judds ‘til now,” Darrell Waltrip said. “If I could sing like anybody I've ever listened to it, I’d have a sound like hers. Wynonna can back it down to be sweet and sensitive, or she can ‘rock ‘n roll’ it. It's a huge honor for her to be a part of our tournament and I can’t wait to have a front-row seat.”
Last year’s WBCC was the most successful to-date, raising $380,000 for MRO, Feed The Children and Lipscomb University’s Charlie Daniels Scholarship for Heroes. In a mere four years, WBCC has raised more than $1 million for charity. Several top names from the NASCAR, country music, sports and entertainment worlds annually lend their support through participation and donations of autographed items for auction.
“When Darrell and I begin to put this event together every year, we think we can’t possibly top what we did the previous year, but our friends and supporters always prove us wrong,” Michael Waltrip said. “Bringing someone of Wynonna’s caliber on board is another testament to this. There is no doubt she will bring the house down.”
