Brian Vickers Summary: No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota driver Brian Vickers finished ninth in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. After a 2 ½ hour rain delay, the Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 38th and worked his way into the top 20 by lap 50. Rain halted the race for 3 hours and 18 minutes at the lap 118 mark. When the race resumed Vickers picked up where he left off and was in the top 15 by lap 234 and cracked the top 10 by lap 282. Vickers’ Aaron’s Dream Machine struggled on the restarts but was fast on the long runs. In the final third of the race, Vickers climbed as high as sixth, but could not make up any ground on the leaders. The ninth-place finish is his fifth consecutive top 10 at Bristol driving an MWR Toyota. Vickers and the No. 55 team return to action Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in California.

  • Started 38th and finished 9th
  • Scored his first top 10 of 2014
  • Fifth consecutive top-10 finish at Bristol driving an MWR Toyota
  • Climbed as high as sixth in the closing laps.

VICKERS: “Just really proud of everyone on this Aaron’s Dream Machine team. They made the most out of this Toyota Camry. I’m ashamed to say, we legitimately qualified 37th on Friday -- we just really missed it. It’s uncharacteristic of the team, but it happens to the best of them. I’ve seen it happen to Jimmie (Johnson) and Chad (Knaus, crew chief) -- they’ve won six championships. You have to keep fighting and never give up. All the guys on this team hustled and did an incredible job. Completely wholesaling the car Saturday night and gave me a really fast car today. The only thing we missed was the travels -- just missed it a little bit on the travels and we were just dragging the track on restarts on new tires. We would give up three or four spots on new tires -- we’d get most of them and then some back on long runs, but the closer we got to the front the harder it was to make that up on the long run with guys just being faster and getting their cars better, everybody up top. Considering where we started I think top-10 is a good run. If we could have started sooner or closer or had the front raised up a little bit then we might have even been able to contend for a win.”

Clint Bowyer Race Summary:  No. 15 5-hour ENERGY Toyota driver Clint Bowyer finished 15th in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. After a 2 ½ hour rain delay, the Michael Waltrip Racing driver started 15th and worked on the handling of his Toyota throughout the early part of the race. Rain returned at the lap 118 mark bringing out the red flag for 3 hours and 18 minutes. After the restart, the No. 15 team’s pit strategy enabled Bowyer to lead five laps. Cars with fresher tires dropped Bowyer from the lead and he lost a lap to the leaders on lap 255. Crew Chief Brian Pattie kept making adjustments enabling Bowyer to return to the lead lap with less than 75 laps to go and finish 15th. Bowyer and the No. 15 team return to action Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.

  • Started 15th and finished 15th.
  • Led once for five laps.
  • Went a lap down on lap 255.
  • Regained his lap with less than 75 to go.

BOWYER: “Well, we salvaged a decent day for the 5-hour ENERGY Toyota. We were a lap down for a while and were able to come back and get a top 15 which isn't bad for Bristol.”

  • Carl Edwards took the checkered flag under caution.
  • Rounding out the top five were: Ricky Stenhouse, Aric Almirola, Tony Stewart and Marcos Ambrose.
  • Rain delayed the start of the race by more than 2 ½ hours.
  • Rain delayed the race at the lap 118 mark for 3 hours and 18 minutes.
  • Twelve drivers exchanged the lead 20 times and twelve cautions slowed the race for 95 laps.
